LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Wisconsin's Third District Congressman asked voters on Labor Day to think about how much it cost them to enjoy the Labor Day weekend.

Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) said in a virtual press conference Monday that the Republican Party "is the party of the family and working man and woman."

He said voting for Donald Trump over Kamala Harris will bring prices of groceries and gasoline down, and that it's important to vote for someone who's "actually run a business."

"She cast the tiebreaking vote for the Inflation Reduction Act which led to all this inflation, don't ever forget that....Kamala Harris has proven to not understand basic economics. Donald Trump has proven to understand economics inside and out," said Van Orden.

Donald Trump earlier this year was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Two Trump Organization companies have also been found guilty of criminal tax fraud.

Republicans in 2022 argued Inflation Reduction Act would push inflation upward. The Congressional Budget Office at the time said its impact would be "negligible."

Since its passage, inflation has gone down, but economists say that's due to supply chain fixes, the Fed's interest rates, and lower oil prices, not the Inflation Reduction Act.
